We compare the triple-lens cameras of the LG V40 'ThinQ' and Huawei's Mate 20 Pro, to see if three lenses really are better - and which smartphone shooter produces the best quality photos and video.

Huawei's Mate 20 Pro boasted one of the first triple lens mobile cameras, following on from the P20 Pro - except this time, the second lens was an ultra-wide-angle snapper. Combined with the telephoto lens, the Mate 20 Pro is an extremely versatile way to capture photos.

LG was already accustomed to ultra-wide-angle mobile cameras, and for the V40 it added a third lens, again a telephoto shooter with optical zoom. So the camera hardware compares directly with the Mate 20 Pro.

Still, the two do produce different quality results, as you'll see from our testing. The Mate 20 Pro can boost colours, while the LG V40 sticks with more natural images. And those zoom shots are dramatically different. We also review the night mode, portrait mode and video quality of the Mate 20 Pro and V40, to see who is the ultimate winner: LG or Huawei?
