ActionAid launches Dear Sisters, a short film featuring Emma Thompson, Wunmi Mosaku, Jodie Whittaker, Alesha Dixon, Anjli Mohindra, Anna Maxwell Martin, Erin Doherty, Kiran Sonia Sawar, Mandip Gill and Sorcha Groundsell to support its Home Shouldn’t Hurt Christmas appeal.

In the film, the 10 women narrate a letter they have addressed to their daughters; sisters; nieces – the upcoming generation of girls – in which they share happy memories of Christmas; what they are looking forward to this year; and their hopes for women’s rights in 2019.

The film was devised to highlight the charity’s Christmas campaign Home Shouldn’t Hurt. For millions of women and girls, home is the most dangerous place in the world. One in three women worldwide will be beaten or sexually abused in their lifetime – most likely by someone they know.

ActionAid is committed to ending violence against women and girls. The charity runs one-stop crisis centres that provide medical, legal, and psychosocial counselling services for domestic violence survivors in the world’s poorest countries, as well as shelter, and is calling on the UK public to help support the creation of more centres like these.
