However, according to claims in Torreira's native Uruguay, the midfielder will now sign a deal with Arsenal before the start of the World Cup. According to Embajadores del Gol the 22-year-old's agent Pablo Bentancur flying out to Russia this evening with a contract. Torreira has a €25m (£22m) release clause at Sampdoria, which must be paid in full up until 60 days after the transfer is confirmed. However, reports suggest Arsenal are looking to avoid paying the fee up front. The Gunners are willing to pay €30m (£26m) in order to split the transfer sum into instalments over a period of years. But speaking last week, Sampdoria chief Carlo Osti sent a message to any prospective bidders, ensuring they realise Torreira has a release clause in place. “Torreira has a €25m (£22m) release clause, everyone knows that," he told Italian outlet Rai Sport. Arsenal are also being linked with a move for Sporting Lisbon's Gelson Martins. The Portuguese star could be available on a free due to his ongoing contract dispute.
