Producer of foods for pubs/hotels and also for their own fleet of “Jiffy” vans. The Company also owns it’s own bakery/shop. My duties were as an Adminstrator and I also managed a beach-front café in Exmouth for them.

A national carrier where initial duties included parcel sorting. Progressed to “Team Leader” (an assistant to the Supervisor) with the relevant safety training. Duties included taking charge of both driver and lorry, un-sealing and safe opening of trailer, unloading parcel cages for the team to distribute around the warehouse, safe operation of tail-gate lifts, “fifth wheel” and rear suspension height adjustment, re-loading with sorted parcel cages and loose items, safe closure and sealing of trailer, and ensuring departure to schedule. Record keeping and computer data entry was a further requirement. Whilst doing this, was also responsible for over-seeing the section and ensuring it’s efficient operation and was “in charge” if the supervisor was off the floor.

Video Select
I purchased a franchise with this company which was based on weekly rental of video films, using a “rounds” system, delivered to your door. I used the custom computer software provided to maintain video stocks, produce delivery schedules and record monies collected. I was also responsible for sourcing and ordering new videos, selling old stock, leafleting and door-to-door canvassing, organising videos ready for delivery, collecting cash, confirming the cash totals and videos returned on the computer, banking and accounting.

Knowles Foundry Ltd and SJB Ltd.
Initially employed as Assistant Foundry Manager, progressing to Foundry Manager within 12 months and was invited onto the Board of Directors 2 years later. Due to the recession of the late ’80s and sensing an opportunity, in 1990 I formed SJB Ltd. which I used as a vehicle to perform an “MBO”. In it’s more streamlined format the company went on to make good progress whilst I now took on all the responsibilities of running my own companies.
Work-related Qualifications
I studied for a “City and Guilds” in “Foundry Technology” at West Bromwich (Sandwell) Technical College and gained a pass with credits.
I am certified in “Emergency First-aid” (CPR).
I have an NVQ in “Business Administration”.
I have studied “Business Mentoring”.
