Horror movies can be, well, horrifying. Sometimes, they're so scary they keep you up at night, and are the sources of your worst fears. But did you know all that terror can actually help you burn calories? It makes sense when you think about it: Scary movies keep your heart rate up in the same way a brisk walk or a quick jog can.

As Parade reports, researchers at the University of Westminster in London looked into the influence horror films have on the human body, and the results are pretty cool. It turns out watching a 90-minute horror film can burn around 150 calories, and the flicks with the highest number of jump scares burn the most. It's all about heart rate, oxygen intake, and carbon dioxide output. Even though you're perfectly safe at home or in the movie theater, when you're scared enough, your body produces adrenaline. A lot of adrenaline. This puts your body in overdrive and, suddenly, you're a fat-burning machine.
