The Bush Game

I got this from Matthew at differentSky. It’s called The Bush Game. Quite enjoyable actually. It’s violent and informative at the same time. Go on. Get Bush out of the Whitehouse. You’ll meet some of your favourite heros along the way.

hey i got sql errors when i posted..
29 May 2004, 02:45
Ha ha ha he he he.... I like the BUSH-GAME:dance:! he he he ha... Fat-ass-He-man was great:clap:. I played it for about 20 min :think:then I had to give it up-:naughty:-it was too depressing seeing all those tax dallors going down the drain like that. Alot of time went into that, eh?:notworthy:
29 May 2004, 07:26
Those same errors that Lily got,:wall: same here
29 May 2004, 07:28
MMmm. I don't know what that's all about although I have just been messing with the database after Lily's post. I'll leave it alone now and see how it goes.
29 May 2004, 07:59
Well I didn't get errors but it took a bloody long time to upload. I then realised that my BOINC software had just completed it's last unit so, as I was connected, it had automatically uploaded the result then started to download another 10 data units so this is just a second test really.
29 May 2004, 08:19
Here is another post just to see if those errors come up again....:?:
29 May 2004, 09:39
Seems to be fixed..... I guess that was the problem:dance:
29 May 2004, 09:40
@Thomasso - Thanks for checking. That second post seemed to go OK. I've removed the "Blacklist" plugin which is what I was working on when you first posted. The errors I was seeing seemed to refer to this and it seems OK since I removed it.
29 May 2004, 11:13
Cool ,that was my first ping back. Thanks Stuart!
30 May 2004, 00:46
Blacklist plugin? What is that, somthing to keep rouge posters from sending comments on your Blog?

Oh, I was just Lily's Blog and saw that she too upgraded to 1.2. How much work was it to upgrade and what changes were made?
30 May 2004, 04:58
@Matthew - hey no problem. I try to give credit where......

@Thomasso - It was pretty easy. I've actually given you some instuctions here. There are quite a few tweaks but one of the main benefits is the addition of "plugins" so you can do things like the "new" flags you see and the "blog stats" you can find in the menu, not to mention the smilies. Go for it.
30 May 2004, 05:55
Yes, I remember that post, but I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't loosing any data or having to do any major tweaking to keep the present style ( CSS ) that I have.

I'm assuming that you can keep the same CSS and index.php that you already have? Or, do you need to make changes with the new templates ( CSS and index.php )?

I just need to know before, so I can set aside time to do this. I hate starting something, hitting snags, then having to leave it for the rest of the week. You know what I mean?
30 May 2004, 07:51
Well just looking at your blog I don't think you're using any hacks. Correct me if I'm wrong. I always think it best to use the new index.php file just in case they've tweaked anything in it. You might want to download your current index file so you can refer to it later if you need to. Don't forget to backup your database first. It is also prudent to delete all the existing files on your server in case there are any "overwrite" problems. As far as I can see you haven't renamed the index file so no problem there. Once it's installed you should just need to alter the new index.php to refer to your own CSS file. I would advise that you put the full URL in for this i.e. start with the "http". This will be of benefit for certain plugins. And don't forget to un-comment the popups if you want to continue using them. The only problem I have with upgrading is that some of the plugins I use require bits of code putting into pages so once I've upgraded I have to add these back in. It's simple enough really though. I wouldn't think it would take more than half an hour including backups. Now don't forget that you are upgrading and not installing. Read the help file they give you. It's been updated. Do your modifications to the config-sample.php file and rename it. Actually I don't think they've altered this and I used my existing config.php file. Saves a bit of messing about. Don't forget to backup your database first. Oh did I mention that?
30 May 2004, 08:44
Thanks Stuart, I just downloaded the new WordPress. I'm going to back up the whole thing. So you figure I should delete all the files that I'm going to replace before I do the up-grade? Why not just copy over everything?

Backing up the database, am I just copying the MySQL file from my server? Where is it? *yes-------I never fooled around with that before---we are talk'n newbe here!*:wall:

It looks simple! I'll do that tomorrow! Thanks.
30 May 2004, 11:56
hey and thanks and glad the error's gone!
30 May 2004, 12:20
I couldn't access this game whenever I saw it at differentSky, but tonight I could. Paris Hilton was the end of me. Boy, I didn't expect some of the early animation blushing it caused me, hehe.

Oh my gawd I love this smiley so much ->
30 May 2004, 13:22
@Thomasso - let me know if you have problems. Might be quicker by email.

@Lily - I'm glad the errors have gone! I removed the "Blacklist" plugin which seems to have cured it. Thanks for what exactly? If I was that good where's the :notworthy:.

@Jess - Of all the people in all the world you're the one person I knew would like my binky baby. If you want it you'll have to go WP won't you? Did you get to the game from here? I didn't have a problem with Matthew's link when I tried it. And yes there are a few "down-to-earth" bits. Even I cringed a little.
30 May 2004, 13:48
@Stuart - Stooping to temptation tactics, eh? Using baby smilies to lure me in to the land of WP? As if I needed more baiting? Hehe. Regarding the link, I haven't retried via Matthew's site - I suspect it was just too busy when I tried to access it the first time. Just joined the forum, btw. Advanced warning. Now if Lily joins too there'll be endless annoying chatter and you'll probably resort to banning us.
30 May 2004, 13:59
@Jess - Well thanks for joining. Oddly I joined Matthew's about 6 hours ago but haven't posted yet. I always find it a bit hard joining a conversation half-way through especially when you don't know what the heck they are talking about. I would never stoop so low as to offer my binky as bait but I could certainly put a second WP copy up if you want to try it out. Don't rush. It's 8.00am here and I ain't been akip yet. Grand Prix is on at 1.00pm so I daren't now cuz I know I won't wake up. I'm hunting around for a box of matches. Keep my eye-lids apart.
30 May 2004, 14:15
Haha - now I understand your matches comment on my LJ blog. I was a bit lost there but figured it would reveal itself eventually. Right now I'm up with the kidlet - almost 4 am here. He's very eager to type (new computer users get younger every year, don't they?). He's easily distracted by the task of putting his foot in his mouth instead, however (so like his momma there - figuratively speaking ).

I would love to give WP a go, but I'm not sure when/if I'll have time to play with it until after the move. Thank you for the offer though - I may take you up on it at a later date!!

Did you see the portrait icon thread at Matthew's forum? That's as a good a place as any to hop in I'd guess. ;)
30 May 2004, 14:52
I thought you were up a bit late when I spotted the new comment. Mind you I need talk. They do get into it younger don't they? One of my lads was on an old Sinclair Spectrum at the ripe old age of 2. Worked his way up through various Ataris, N64s, Playstations etc to a proper PC. He's now 18 (D-Day actually) and about to take his "A" levels next month. I can never remember your equivalent but these are what he needs to get into Uni. He's going to be doing computers there. He's rather clever actually.

Yes do let me know if you want to use it. I've got space to burn here. The whole of this site is only using about 5% of my allowance and there's no chance of exceeding bandwidth. Well not unless Lily joins the forum too. It would not be a problem.

I'll check that thread out at Matthew's forum in a bit. I need something to occupy me though I don't think staring at this screen is helping much.
30 May 2004, 15:10
I'm not sure, but I'm guessing that "A" levels are something like our SAT or ACT tests. Good luck to him on those, whatever they be! Although it sounds as if he doesn't need it. And early birthday wishes to you both as well (and your best friend and wicked step-monster). I may not be online in time to wish it properly.

For the sleepiness, I suggest coffee. Or someone willing to clang pots above your head in time should you decide to nap!
30 May 2004, 15:25
I thank you. Coffee. Good idea. :notworthy:
30 May 2004, 15:42
Checked out the Bush link. Really enjoyed it  Did try to comment sooner but mysql was temporarily playing up (don't they all). Just installing my first WP other than my own. Uri to follow when we are running smoothly. I am inserting smilies here at random because I like them:naughty: The new colour scheme is certainly errrhhh - imaginative.
30 May 2004, 17:36
@Root - Yes taking out that plugin seems to have done the trick with MySQL. So is the other installation for someone else or do you think you can fill 2 of them. "Imaginative" eh? That's a cute way of saying "what the bloody hell's he done now!" I did say I like messing and I've combined my CSS. Now you're going to hate me for it but I do like the blue and orange bits so they are likely to stay. I'm not too happy with the yellow though. :???: When it comes to yellow I like those bold, solid types not these wishy-washy ones but I feel a solid shade would have had a "sunglasses" effect. I'll keep messing but I have to produce gifs for the fade effect which slows things up a bit. Watch this space though.
31 May 2004, 04:23
Well no one is going to hate you. That is a really cool blog but that style is rather errhh common.:notworthy: A new colour scheme might be just the job.
31 May 2004, 06:55
My thoughts exactly. Just a simple case of getting it right.
31 May 2004, 08:02
Ooooooooh purply. Melikes.
31 May 2004, 09:52
It's growing on me. That yellow was starting to irritate me. Now I have to think about the text. The black for main text is fine, I won't change that. I've done the "acronym" text which is a very pale blue even if you might think it's white. I like the way the hr looks on this page (that's the comment divider) so I may change the main blog page to use these instead of that purple line. I use hr all over the rest of the site. Pity they look crap in IE . So my next targets are the red links. Not the ones in the menu (yet), just the ones in the main content. Any colour suggestions welcome.
31 May 2004, 10:28
You don't wanna ask me about color schemes - I'm a monochrome fiend (borrrrrrrring).
31 May 2004, 12:11
Don't you mean sepia?
31 May 2004, 13:25
I am legendarily maladroit when it comes to color. I always use one of those color harmony sites. At least that way you can blame someone else  This is coming along nicely.
31 May 2004, 17:30
@Root - It's getting there. It's the little tweaks that tend to count though isn't it?
31 May 2004, 19:11
Sepia fiend? Hmm...
31 May 2004, 21:46
I used so much energy on my float positioning scheme and the issues therein I have run out of a bit of steam. I still can not figure out how to do my header. Plus I need a lot more detail on the menu. But that is the fun of it. Installed a nightly. Does that make it a Mingus release? I am confused because in admin it still refers to beta. But you know everything:dance: Isn't it sad, blogging on the bank holiday. :wall:
31 May 2004, 22:04
I like the blue background for the posts. Nice.
31 May 2004, 22:55
@Jess - Now that I've seen your new "sinister midget" picie I take it all back.

@Root - You get the official Mingus release from the Sourceforge page. They still refer to Beta because you can continue to get nightlies and you can get updated pages from the CVS. I'm going to stick to what I've got till the next official release. I find the CVS gets confusing after a while cuz I can't remember what I've downloaded and what I haven't!!

@Brian - I thank you.

This has now become the record post for comments. Time for a new one I think. :notworthy:
1 June 2004, 05:06
@Stuart - Alas, I did not draw that. Still not sure where you're getting the sepia fiend idea... my blog's mostly purple, my drawings on there are mostly green or blue (the newest is sepia-ish though - is that why?). Or is my brain tricking me into believing I've colored things differently but they're really ALL sepia?? Hehe. *paranoid grimace*

Anywhoo, I like the new blue and the dashed dividers are spiffy too!
1 June 2004, 07:01
I haven't delved into your archives or anything so the only ones I've seen are the new one and the "signature". OK that one is't sepia and I know you didn't draw the new picie cuz I've got one of those. It is up now if you haven't seen it. Have you tried doing a lego-mini? I have to admit that the dividers where a bit of an accident. I did put them in but I wasn't expecting them to go right across. I quite liked it when I saw it. Good accidents are hard to find.
1 June 2004, 07:46
I did a lego portrait ages ago, wonder if I still have it saved somewhere...
