About the Post

Author Information

I enjoy working with HTML, XHTML, CSS and designers as a web developer. At home I enjoy listening to music, playing music, reading and food.

Here we are again then. Admin. Pretty boring stuff here really. Both apps. have much the same sort of information they require to work properly such as your name, email address, are you in a sub-directory, how do you want dates shown etc etc. So I’m not going to go through it all and bore you to tears but I thought I’d show you a couple of screenshots from TXP to point out a couple of things WP doesn’t have.

Textpattern Admin Screen

Here’s the screen you enter first in admin with TXP. I’m not going all through it I just want you to see that column of buttons with ?‘s on them. These appear everwhere in TXP and you will see them in the other screenshots in previous posts and in screenshots yet to come. If you click on one of these you get a little popup with more detailed information on what is required or what it will do. Very useful for the novice and experienced user alike. There is nothing like this in WP.

Textpattern Logs Screen

(This is a very large image.) This is also something that you won’t get in WP except through plugins. There are also separate apps. out there such as Shortstat but this little gizmo is built into TXP and is very handy. This will keep a 7 day log of referers for you at no extra expense. Next I shall go back to the individual sections of Content in TXP and the corresponding sections in WP.

Very good stats page. HUmmm, maybe a hint for the WP camp in 1.3, eh? I see I’m on there a few time. Thats a nice log-apps to have around. Can you modify it?

PLease… what else does TXP do!!! jumping up and down in front of the PC

Whoa patience Tom. I’m doing 3 different things at once here and I have to produce the graphics etc. The next post will start getting into the nitty-gritty but I think the best part will be when I get to Presentation and show you how no knowledge of PHP is required to mess around with TXP pages. (And I don’t think that will come with WP 1.3 either.)
