Textpattern 1.0RC

And the word from Dean is that Textpattern 1.0RC will be available Monday (20th). He says it’s mainly bug fixes and code tidying but we shall see.

Stuart, Don’t mean to be a “pick” but your new menu seems to be a bit out of alinement… looking at it with Fire-Fox.0.9-1. Anyway, life is almost back to normal here: finly got all my textbooks. Let me know if you need a screen-capture on that menu?

Really. Well you ought to be at FF 0.9.3 minimum. It is simply centred over the content. What resolution are you at? It might be too wide. I've dropped the text size so it is a little narrower. Do a "CTRL F5" just incase there's something else I've changed which isn't registering with your browser.

I’ll send you a screen-shot. I did the f5. My res. I believe is 850×600 [?] but that is a setting that I never changed since I upgraded to linux RH9 / FadoraII. It is centered, but is too big for the comment width.

I’ve recently downloaded textpattern and have been playing around with it. Looks good. Are you still happy with it and is it meeting your needs?

I’m thinking of using it for guestblock.com as the content there won’t necessarily be blog based. But my plans for it will also require a bespoke solution that I’ll have to create. I’ll expand on that more on my site when I determine myself what my exact plans are…

Matthew – Yes, yes, yes and yes. I’ve just upgraded to 1.0RC1 and it’s all looking very good so far. You should join the forum and check out the “buglist” thread. You could probably contribute as well if you find the time between Guest Block and Oz. You know enough PHP to do the odd plugin.

I’m still finding my way around it at the moment but I find it a lot easier than WP from various angles.

For one thing I can use the image upload facility which I could never get working in WP and it has built-in support for thumbnails in the sense that the thumb and the full-size graphic are connected. You only need to specify the thumb in your post and it automatically links to the full-size picie. And you can see all your images within the facility too.

In truth you don’t need any PHP knowledge at all due to the excellent tag system. Plugins are a lot simpler to install. No messing about putting bits of PHP in this file or that and no extra files to upload.

I’ve now got most of my site installed into it. Just a few of my full-width pages to bring into the fold.

I shan’t mention the fact that Textile is built into the whole app.

I like it as well.

Well I have got my TXP up and running. The interface is a bit er sparse but it all looks cool so far. Stu thanks for trailblazing and the heads up. :) I have logged in the txp forum as uprooted :)

Root – Yes I spotted you’d logged in. Stay away from “allusion”! I did mention it wasn’t for the faint-hearted but I think you will find the workings of it a lot simpler than WP. It’s just that a knowledge of CSS is pretty much a pre-requisite. Still, you don’t get all those silly questions in the forum. They are a bit more complicated.

Have you checked out markdown? I think I prefer that syntax to textile.

Yes I used Markdown most of the time I used WP but I started trying out Textile and got to like the shorthand you can use for styling in the comments. When I moved to TXP I found you could use it in admin for posting as well. I prefer it now. I know there’s been discussion in the forum about how to change to Textile 2. Whether this could be done to change to Markdown I don’t know. You’d know better than me.

Well now I’ve checked your link out it would seem you can swap over. Have you tried it yet?
22 September 2004, 14:38
If you’re using RC1 keep your eye on the forum Buglist. There are a few new files out today. I suspect there will be an RC2 shortly. I’ve just installed TortoiseSVN as TXP uses SVN. I’m still trying to figure out how to set-up my PC Site and how to connect to the TXP site. Any hints would be welcome.

Edit

Scratch that. I've installed Subversion and got that working fine.

Those latest files are critical. I needed 3 to go from the RC to fully functional but Dean is on the case. I have to say I am really pleased so far. I am going to use it for wp-blogger :)Shameless plug: Gemini has now been ported to txp and ExpressionEngine. Its really cool. When I try a new blog prog I can use my own templates :) Incidentally EE auto generates a random word you need to input when you comment. Kills the spammers stone dead.

Good. There are 5 though. You should have txp_article, txp_plugin, txplib_misc, txp_link and txp_discuss. That should have you bang up-to-date at the moment. Dean is pretty good at getting bugs sorted. He’ll probably release RC2 once he has the main bugs covered. Are you checking the SVN? I’ve installed Subversion 1.0.6 to keep my PC site updated.

I haven’t checked EE out yet. I have enough to do at the moment. I’m just importing my Wallpaper pages into TXP. Five pages with 60 full-size graphics and 60 thumbnails. Should keep me occupied for the next couple of days. I did have a quick look at Serendipity a couple of days ago but it’s a full-blown CMS type application. Not the way I want to go at all. Looks good but just not what I want.

subversion – the source control package? I’ve heard about that, will look into it. Could do with some source control
