Still Working On It

Yes I’m still messing about with the test layout. I was having major problems controlling the position of both the title text and the Radioactive image particularly as they were supposed to be on the same line so I’ve moved the title text down to a box of it’s own. So does the banner expand properly above 800×600 and is the Radioactive image in the right place, that is bottom right corner? Is the menu position OK? I now have 2 pages, one of which is this post page but remember that it is just a page not a WP install so if you click on comments it will bring you back to this layout.

I’ve taken these links out as I’ve moved on with the layout now.

Well you are putting us to accessibility shame here. Your font is nice and readable and now you are now moving to a flexible width all of which is admirable. At the mo the word bombsite is part of the grahic. The word radioactive is generated by fireworks presumably? What is the title you want to get lined up.? It all looks cool to me on FF for layout.

OK. Well the Bomb Site text is part of the graphic so it won't move. I've tried putting the text on a transparent background and it looks crap. So I'm stuck on that one cuz I like the text as it is. It actually looks cool when it's larger. I was considering making it "banner" size with the expanding background colour method I'm using. Could still keep the radioactive (which is a) graphic cuz the size of the Bomb Site text would be so large that having the radioactive image on top of it won't matter. I wish Jess would hurry up back. See if she's had a looksie at it yet. Anyway I'm working on that so "Test Page 3" beckons.

Back to this one though. I haven't altered any text so it's as it was before. The only things I've "added" are the "Bombshells" which are an XHTML part of the menu, the "FireFox" and "Thunderbird" links (also XHTML) and the box under the banner containing the page title. Now I know that the menu may move up slightly at higher res. cuz it's top-margined but I think there's enough leaway there. Tell me if not. What res do you use Root?

The problem I had was that the title is "text" in the page "body" to make it easy to create or change and because it is different for each page. When I positioned it in the banner it moved left as the banner "expanded" for higher resolutions but it also moved up and down as the apparent text-size increased or decreased. Didn't look too good. Which is roughly when I handily came upon the posts relating to "Data Driven Graphics". As I had Fireworks it would be a doddle to create individual graphics for each page "enmasse" so I just produced one text graphic which I also decided should be the longest page title in use. Now the problem is that I needed the 2 graphics (title and "Radioactive") to be on the same level but I just wasn't having any luck with it. So we come to todays design where the title has been given it's own box under the banner leaving only the "Radioactive" graphic and the background to expand or contract as per.

The other thing I'm debating is whether to use this just for the Blog and Blog related pages and keep the main site as is or go sitewide with it.

Hi Sir,

So, That whole long comment I just read.... I couldn't understand a word of it, I think I'll smile and nod and say that it looks very pretty, even on my crazy resolution. ... just one odd thing, when I start to write comments, the box actually explands to wider than just the light blue section.... it sits inside the blue section until I put the cursor in it, then it gets bigger. If you need a screen shot, just tell me.

I hope you got my email with the two pictures of the comments box... either way, it appears to be fixed.

A comment about #3... Radioactive is VERY difficult to read. I don't know if it's because of the colouring scrambly thing you've chosen or because of the font, or some combination of the two, but it isn't read... it's deciphered.

I really like the font for "The Bomb Site" that you've used in the 3rd and 4th test pages. Good job! Now, where can I get that font???

Yes I got your email eb but I'm working on the next step. The textbox glitch was down to IE and the way it treats borders and widths. Anyway I've used a different way of setting the width.

I'm not too keen on the "radioactive" text so you won't see it in future.

I do like this new banner and I hope, shortly, to present you with a two column, variable width layout with footer.
