Mobile Phones
I was listening to a programme on BBC Radio 4 last night which was talking about the up-coming release of the Live Aid 4-DVD set. Sounds rather good and totals 10 hours in length. Anyway this post isn’t really about that but about a comment that was made on the programme that stuck in my mind. I’m old enough to have been old enough to have watched and remember the concert. It was an enjoyable day. The comment related to the crowd in the stadium. The guy said that the atmosphere was different to big-crowd events you get today and he put it down to the fact that back then there were no mobile phones. At least not the sort you could put in your pocket. He said that in today’s audiences many people are concentrating more on their mobiles, bragging to mates about where they are or taking photos. Back then everyone was concentrating on the entertainment and thoroughly enjoying themselves.
Ah the good old days – when people used to concentrate.

And another thing. I can never understand why people need to be on mobile phones at such times as 5 in the morning. I went for a walk yesterday and this guy was raving on to someone on his mobile phone in the middle of the park near us. Not so strange except it was 5.30ish in the morning. I am not that important that I need to speak with people on the phone at that hour.
I’m busy writing comments on people’s websites at 4.48 am instead :)
My first concert was back in 1976 at a little dump called Randy’s Rodeo. Don’t let the name of the place fool you. Who did I see there? Patti Smith. (Patti Smith of “Horses” and “Radio Ethiopia” fame; not to be confused with The Patty Smythe Group who cranked out “Warrior” in the 1980s).
maybe people are on their phones at that hour in the morning cuz it’s when they get the cheaper rates or the free calls?
but yeah
i don’t get it
i mean..having your phone on in class…but answering it in class
yikes!!!
