Gallery

I’ve installed Gallery and have now uploaded a few photos for you to look at. The link is in the Main Site menu. There’s nothing fancy there but I thought they may interest some of you. Actually it’s been up for a while but I had a problem with the first piece of software I was using so I’ve waited until everything seems to be running OK before announcing it.

The software does allow commenting but I figured the only way to keep the spammers out was to make people register in order to comment. I think there are enough places around here where you can have your say without having to register for something else so I’ve stopped commenting entirely. Grilled spam then.

I liked that singapore thingy. It has similar stylings to the gallery at stop design.

Your hair in the first photo of yourself in the gallery is superb.

I loved Singapore. Thought it looked great, easy to install, easy to integrate. Unfortunately, when I was doing a single upload on about the second day of use it froze on me and no amount of messing would get it to work again short of re-installing it. I figured if I was going to have to do that I would try something else. Expression Engine was my second choice but wouldn’t even “set-up”. Every time I tried to run the set-up I ended up at my front-page. Some conflict with TXP or my htaccess there methinks. I had looked at Gallery before but gone with Singapore so it seemed a natural 3rd choice. I don’t know. All this software around and I’m reduced to my 3rd choice.

I can tell you I’m not overly happy with Gallery but it’s working so far. I don’t think I would recommend it, certainly not for noobies. Way too complex for them. Styling it into your site is a pain. It’s got so many templates it could sink the Titanic and I still haven’t found out where the DTD is inserted. I need to add some code for the menu to work properly with IE and I can’t find the damn thing. I’m going to have a good look at that Simple Gallery you like though after upgrading TXP, Guestblock, PunBB and ShortStat I’m getting a bit jaded at fixing things. I might just go down the route of creating a new section and designing my own album!

And my hair! My Mother’s excuse was that she was only 21 at the time. I’m making no comment.

I love seeing all the new pictures. The Plitview waterfall pictures are lovely and I especially like all of the kid/baby pics (surprise surprise!).

There is one in the “I took these” section (Another Sunset, page 1) that isn’t showing for me but everything else works fine.

Sorry about that Jess but it’s showing for me and I can’t see anything wrong. Matthew didn’t mention it so maybe it’s just you. Try an F5 and see if it picks it up.

Yes, it’s quite possible it’s just me, haha. It’s still not working for me after F5. ;) It just looks like a white vertical strip with a drop shadow (and it’s not clickable like the others).

Well I can’t see what the problem is there Jess. I’ve even looked at it in IE6 and it’s working. What more can I say? It will no doubt be changed again soon so be patient.

I wasn’t complaining. ;)
