CSSVista

Well if ever there was a useful web site design application CSSVista has to be one of THE most useful. First, let me say that it is still in Beta and that you will need Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 installed on your PC. This is the latest version of .NET and if you don’t have it you should run Windows update to get it. That also means that, as far as the CSSVista download is concerned, this is for Windows XP only.

CSSVista screenshot With that out of the way let me explain what CSSVista can do. You can load a web page into it’s built-in browser and edit that page’s CSS on-line. Well nothing new there. You can do that with the Web Developer extension for FireFox. But here’s the magic. You can view the page in a split-screen that shows it in both FireFox and Internet Explorer at the same time, and edit the CSS and see the results for both browsers at the same time. Cool or what? If you click on the thumbnail you can see a screen shot of CSSVista with thebombsite home page loaded in. Now this might not look like much to the uninitiated but to web site designers this is probably more useful than sliced bread. Really!

The CSSVista download is completely free because it is being used as a tempter for you to use the full-blown, on-line browser-comparison facility called SiteVista that they offer. Of course this costs you money but in the meantime what can I say?

Download it and try it out for yourself remembering the provisos mentioned above. I don’t think you will regret it.

Stuart, thanks very much for the review, and your kind words!

I’m really pleased you like the software.

(Oh, and hope you don’t mind, but I’m planning to include a quote from this post and a link to it from our SiteVista blog shortly.)

It’s spiffy! I didn’t realize how different my blog looks in IE. :/

It’s just amazing what IE adds to the internet. It’s even more amazing what it takes away, turns upside down and re-colours. ;)

They are working on a Mac version Lily so keep your eye on the site. I believe it will compare FireFox and Safari.
