ConTextile

Do you use FireFox? Oh goody. Did you know that thebombsite.com is controlled by Textpattern? Yeah I know. Big surprise eh? Did you know that Dean, who developed TXP, also developed Textile? Do you know where I’m going with all these questions?

Well Textpattern has Textile built into it. Seems logical doesn’t it? But do you know how to use it in my comments? I used to have some spiffy little buttons you could use to add Textile formatting but then I decided to grow up and get rid of the crud. So now you are stuck aren’t you? Well not any more.

ConTextile is a FireFox extension that gives you a right-click context menu with all the Textile tags you might ever require just a mouse-click away. You can use it in any textarea where Textile is allowed. My comment area is just one place. As I write this I can use it in TXP admin as well. It’s rather nifty.

Now that I’ve told you this I expect to see nicely formatted comments from now on. And if you combine this with the SpellBound spell-checking extension we should end up with some rather professional-looking comments. So what are you waiting for? Go to it!

That’s pretty keen. I’ve not installed it yet, so I’m relying on the naturally good formatting provided by The Bomb Site. But I’m going to check it out.

I have personal issue with spell checkers. It’s a “close cover while striking” kind of issue, if you get what I mean. :-)

Not that my spelling is always perfect…

Well using Textile all the time I tend to have it locked-in to my brain but there are some less common formats I have to check, and the extension gives you bold, italics, underline, code excerpts,

    • unordered
    • lists
    • are
    • easy too,

and you can input images and URLs as well. Quite handy I reckon for those who don't know Textile.

I tend to write my comments then hit the spell-checker just before I submit them. Short comments I probably don't bother with but you can use it in any textarea so again I can check my posts in the admin before posting and odd things like form-fills. There are various languages to choose from including several versions of English.

Glad to see you’re still “pimpin” the virtues of TextPattern. And thanks for the stylesheet tip the other day! Take care!
