Better Beta

Right. I checked on the WP forums and found that others had the same problem upgrading to 1.2 Beta. It would appear that there is a problem with over-writing so they advise you to completely delete all WP files before uploading the new version. So I downloaded a later latest nightly and tried again and the fact that you are reading this shows that it has worked just dandy. I can’t use my smiley and blacklist hacks anymore cuz the files have changed quite radically for example, the post form “Quicktags” are now javascript rather than a text file. Still there does seem to be a few new toys to play with. For some reason my menu isn’t picking up some images which is why it looks a bit odd but I’m trying to sort that.

Yes lovely isn't it? :-) Unfortunately they've now moved away from the "my-hacks" style and come up with "plug-ins" which means I can't put my smilies in a nice convenient place for everyone to use. :-( Also you may have spotted some logos are missing in the menu. I've posted to the WP forum to see if I can find a fix for this but as yet I've not had a reply. I'll go and check again now whilst I'm online.

I think there are probably certain hacks that you can still use the "my-hacks" file for but the problem with the smilies is that they are part of the "Quicktags" function and in the Beta they have changed that to a javascript which stops you doing the hack. As far as the images are concerned they are on my site so I know I've got the link right. I prefer to download images to reduce page loading times. I've even tried using the full path ie "http://thebombs......" but no luck.

That's an earlier version isn't it? Haven't you tried it out yet? :-( By the way, the "weblog" text at the top, which is now red, links back to the main blog so you have links top and bottom. 8-) Don't say I never do anything for you! ;-)

Well mine's the 9th May nightly so it isn't exactly old is it? I don't think I'm going to mess about again that quick. I think I'll wait for a full release. ;-)

Well my post to the WP forum paid off and I now have a new file from the CVS which has cured the logos problem in the menu. :-) I also happen to know that later this week, hopefully, Alex will be releasing a plug-in for WP1.2 Beta to replace his smilies hack. (You should be able to use this in Delta as well.) I'll then be back where I started. 8-)

Well I was only using "Blacklist" and "Smilies" and "Smilies" was the only one everyone could see so it's kind of changed the site not having them there. Still it should be sorted soon. :-) Are your hacks working in Delta?

i think all i had were the polls and the statistics and the nicer archives
the statistics are giving me trouble in my thing now
