BBQs

I’ve been round to my son’s today and he’s been BBQing. It’s been a rather hot day and I’ve come to notice that people always seem to BBQ when it’s warm. Why is that? First off there’s the physical problem of standing next to a hot BBQ (if you’re the chef) on a hot day. Second, when the weather is warm, you tend not to want hot food. It seems more sensible to me to have BBQs when it’s cold (though not raining) then everyone will be able to sit round the BBQ to keep warm and they will be hungry too.

well at home it generally is always warm
so when else would we BBQ?

I LOVE BBQ!!

I can't answer that can I?? It has been pretty warm today though, or I should say yesterday, I think well up in the 70s. Trouble here is it tends to be muggy rather than a dry heat which makes you sweat just sitting still. It kind of puts you off. :???: I like the idea of BBQs in the winter though. We do get cold winters though I'm sure one or two of my Canadian friends will argue that.

Well - got a Blog... now what do I do with it?

btw - why do you think we have Patio Heaters in England?
17 May 2004, 17:41
Hi ya Spit. Nice to see you here. What do you mean? You've got a blog or you just found mine? Do your owners know you're here? Patio heaters? We are going posh aren't we? Now I know there's always exceptions to the rule but I think most people who have a patio heater would turn their noses up at a BBQ unless they were doing a "garden party" type thing in which case they would probably end up hiring Jean-Paul from the local French restaurant to do the cooking. And if it was really cold they just wouldn't go out. Anyway if you've got a BBQ what do you need patio heaters for? :?:

BBQ'ing is more than just cooking...it's an activity. It's really just a chance to socialize with lots of people...and the cook gets to socialize, too. We cook with the BBQ in the winter, but it's just too damn cold in Massachusetts for a BBQ in December.
17 May 2004, 19:48
Yes I suspect it's a lot colder in Massachusetts than here in December, and probably January and February too. I agree BBQing is a social event. Do you use "patio heaters"? Isn't it funny the kind of subjects that get people chatting?
17 May 2004, 20:29
i never heard of a patio heater

but then nobody ever invited me to BBQ in the winter in massachusetts!

I mean I HAVE a Blog - what it is, or what I do with it I haven't the faintest idea - but I HAVE one!!
However, I have neither a BBQ, nor a patio heater....
Now - WHAT is my Blog for? Why did you tell me to get one :) Can I eat it?
17 May 2004, 22:46
@Lily - I shouldn't think you need one where you live and I don't know if they have them in Massachusetts - yet - so don't accept any invites. What's this stalker thing?

@Spit - Now I don't want to get all technical on ya Spit and there may be a case for talking to your owners about this. I know you don't like to too much. So the first question is - where is it? If you have one up and running, even if you haven't posted yet, you should put the address in the "URI" box then your name will turn a magical red colour in my comments and everyone will be able to link to it. I can also put a specific link in my menu just to attract extra attention. If we can get away without telling your owners about it then you'll be able to talk about them all you like. If you don't have one working are you telling me you've downloaded WP and don't know what to do next? If that's the case you need to email me so we can chat about it else this string will go on forever. :???: You're going to need some web space that has PHP and MySQL facilities. If you don't have that I do have plenty of space and could host it for you.

I reckon the optimum English barbecue would need to be held indoors
@ Spit. Welcome to Word Press. If you are a Brit we will help. If not - we charge
18 May 2004, 03:50
How many bones to the pound these days Root??
18 May 2004, 04:45
well i'm not brit and i've been helping people free of charge...

hmm where did i mention my stalker stuart? i know i was dying to scream but didn't realize i'd gotten around to it
18 May 2004, 08:06
Don't worry Lily. That's just Brit humour. Actually Spit is a Brit (I think dogs can have a nationality) and is one of my SETI team mates so all help and hosting if he needs it will be free gratis. He's registered with Blogger but we'll see what happens. As for the stalker I'm not 100% but I think it was in one of your own comments. :!: So what's the news? :?:
18 May 2004, 08:54
well see there are the stalkers like Jess and Joy (lol) and then there's the other kind who're not really stalkers but argh!
yeah the fact that it's in a comment is ringing bells
have you seen my mug?
18 May 2004, 11:31
i posted it on my blog :)
18 May 2004, 11:31
Yes I had a good look at your ponytail mug, back and front. Very nice. Get a lot of tea in there, or probably coffee in your case. Also saw your "no exit, no entry" picture. Good place to park a coach.
18 May 2004, 18:34
1) coffee? makes me sick :-(
2) tea and cocoa!!!
3) yeah, i'm told the guy collects such signs!
18 May 2004, 21:56
I don't like coffee much unless it's a good filtered blend and then only the odd cup. Tea is my choice. About 1 mug every half hour please.
19 May 2004, 04:14
whoa
addict
19 May 2004, 04:43
I don't think addict fully describes it.
19 May 2004, 04:49
you are almost as addicted to tea as you are addicted to air..
19 May 2004, 05:59
I'd better sort a new post out else this one will end up being a comments record.
19 May 2004, 06:15
Heck are those SETI guys all like this?
19 May 2004, 06:18
I'm really quite sane by comparison Root. If you want to know more then go to my SETI page and scroll down to "The Waiting Room" links. It's our club's ezine.
19 May 2004, 06:30
Too late!! New record. Better start thinking quick.
19 May 2004, 06:36
eep

eep
could always close off comments
20 May 2004, 04:09
That might be considered as infringing on freedom of speech. No it's my fault for not coming up with a new post. I did come up with something today but it's a bit serious. People don't seem to comment on serious stuff. Oh sod it. I'll put it up anyway.
20 May 2004, 04:19
ah but see there is free speech ... but i mean ... don't you have rules in your own house?
and it's like exam booklets and forms that say don't write here
do you write there cuz it's infringing on free speech?
nothing is curtailing somebody else's speech... they can put up their own site and rant too
heheheh :-P
20 May 2004, 11:25
No need for me to join SETI. I know aliens are here already.
21 May 2004, 02:57
You just want this comments list to get to 30 don't you Root? Woops. Spoke too soon. Anyway our "kind of" Clinic moto goes something like "the surest sign that there is intelligent life elsewhere in the universe is that they haven't come looking for us!"
21 May 2004, 03:50
i've always liked that motto
21 May 2004, 04:37

:p
22 May 2004, 09:11
You should be concentrating on your move. Finished packing yet? Seen my special "I'm not worthy" smilie? :notworthy: Just for you.
22 May 2004, 20:28
for me? or for max?
me used it already

i should be
but i have no idea what to do with all this junk
and i'm not mailing 8 or more boxes of books home
eeeep
22 May 2004, 21:05
What about the Uni library?
23 May 2004, 08:46
The clearest evidence that there is no intelligent life in the universe is the fact that all the reported sightings of UFOs are in America. And these upgraded smilies are really funky.
Just added a brit link on my blog.
23 May 2004, 20:25
Well if you want them they are free for use and I can tell you where to get them. I'm not actually using all the ones I have cuz some of them use a lot of vertical space like "bouncy" ones, others are quite wide and I wanted to try and keep them all roughly the same size here.
