28 Is A Good Number

This week we heard about the English couple and their Australian friend who went on a sailing trip in their new catamaran and were arrested by Iranian security as they were about to dock in an island harbour.

According to the Englishman, talking to a radio reporter after their release, they were well treated and, indeed, during their second week of captivity, were confined in a luxurious, 5 star hotel. Their confinement was kept quiet whilst the British Foreign Office negotiated their release with the Iranian Foreign Office but since the news became public there has been all sorts of bad-mouthing about keeping people confined like this.

That’s a little odd because the current anti-terrorism law here allows for detention without charge of up to 14 days and this week our so-called government has been pushing for 3 months. With parole taken into account, that’s the equivalent of a 6 month prison sentence for absolutely no reason at all. In a prison as well which is a very long way from a 5 star hotel.

So why should 3 months be OK here but 2 weeks is way to long when it’s applied by other countries to our own citizens? I think it may well be the old racism coming into play again. The anti-terrorism laws are, of course, for terrorists, but at this moment in time those terrorists are likely to be brown and Muslim rather than white and Christian. (I don’t mean the term “brown” to be in any way denigrating.) I wonder how many white Muslims are going to get picked on? I wonder how many brown Christians are going to get picked on?

I suspect the vast majority of those who get confined under these laws are going to be brown and Muslim and the rest will just be brown. So what about the Irish terrorists out there, and the Welsh separatist terrorists and those terrorist pricks who hide behind so-called animal rights? So that’s a big, fat zero then.

In the mean time the government were defeated and an amendment was passed to raise the limit to 28 days. For myself I think that is long enough to be detained without charge. If the police and security forces can’t come up with any proof in 4 weeks there probably isn’t any. Of course the police are moaning about how long it takes to check this and that. Well pull your fucking fingers out then! Maybe if they raised the intelligence level for new recruits we could get a better service. They probably haven’t thought of that. Too clever for them. And let us not forget that this isn’t just down to the police, there are other security forces as well. I think 28 days is plenty of time.

This is also the first defeat for Blare who is now talking about some kind of conspiracy by the opposition and a large group of his own party’s MPs purely in order to inflict the defeat. Quite frankly I think that is very insulting on his part. He also talks about how the majority of the general public backed his 3 month limit. Where did he get that one from? I don’t know of anyone who was asked. And let’s be quite frank about this. There are not likely to be any suicide bombers in Scotland, Wales or Ireland. This is an English problem and unlike the others English people have a high regard for their hard-earned freedom and civil liberties, and we respect the liberties of others. We are not going to be dictated to by a political party which relies on it’s large contingent of foreign MPs. We are fed up with them, particularly the two-faced Scottish pricks (that’s the MPs not the citizens). For my own part I would quite happily give Scotland, Wales and Ireland full devolution. Scotland could even keep the oil for me, and Sean Connery. There isn’t much of it left anyway. This will never happen though whilst this government remains in power. They rely on their foreign contingent for their majority. Without them they would never get elected again in England. So where’s our English parliament then? Roll on I say.

    Dear friend,

I suspect you to be an opponent to Blair’s Government… Hey hey hey! Sounds good to me.

Your postings are quite delightful. It’s for me an hilarious pleasure to read them as they make sense and tell the truth.

This fucking butler of Dubyia must be ASAP ousted from the British Affairs!

Too bad your French isn’t very good because we share the same opinions on many subjects and if you’re able to read my Blog you’ll be, with no doubt, one of my supporters…

Have a good time and write more good articles!

You spotted I don’t like this government? Damn! My secret is out. You might also spot that I have some views which might not be very “P.C.” but are actually closer to the truth than many would like to openly admit. Well I’m open and I’m going to stay open.

I can do a bit of French but not enough to be dangerous. ;)

    Who Are the Terrorists?

The 9/11 panel says that we must make the keeping of WMD’s out of the hands or terrorists a top national priority. Who are they talking about?

I really don’t know. It seems to me that the terrorists of tomorrow could be the heroes of today. Like our staunch allie, Bin Laden, who was showered with money and weapons in his fight against the Russians in Afghanistan. Remember our old buddy Noriega?

When I was a kid we were afraid of “Boogiemen” As in “Lookout, the Boogieman’s gonna get ya” or often when something went wrong or got broken, “The Boogieman did it”

So GW Bush substituted “Terrorists” for “Boogieman” and now we’re all reading from the same page. Or are we?

To me it’s sounding more and more like a “Them and us” situation and both groups are constantly changing- partners and places.

The Buddhists see it as a question of perception: Whatever or whoever we see as “terrorists” is what exists in our own minds
